VOLUNTEER

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Museum staff are currently  in need of volunteers on a regular schedule. Museum volunteers typically serve as project volunteers completing many of the day to day functions of the museum, some volunteers serve as docents, or tour guides. Volunteers often have the opportunity to assist in new program and exhibit development. If you have an interest in working at the museum on specific historic and research programs and projects, we have special opportunities for you and your friends! Setting up museum displays, preparing exhibit space, exhibit design, video production, program development and implementation just to name a few.

SPECIFIC EVENTS

Through the year, the Suwannee County Historical museum sponsors and participates in various community events. You may have  a particular interest in volunteering at one of these events or serving on the event planning committee.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

Throughout the year, there are also opportunities for volunteers to help with the cleaning needs of the museum, publication preparation and distribution, membership drives, corporate partnership enlistment and many others. If you would like to serve in any of these areas, please call us today.

Our volunteers come from many walks of life and range from students to retirees. Here are just some of the ways you can get involved as a Museum Volunteer. Whether you want to use your social skills by working at special events, learn research techniques by working in collections or learn more about the history of Suwannee County, we have many volunteer opportunities you’ll enjoy. If you think of a position of interest not listed below, feel free to make a suggestion so we can work to better fill your needs.

Greeter

Be the face of the Suwannee County Historical Museum by greeting visitors as they arrive. This job is a great way to become familiar with our organization and still have some personal time for reading, research, or other activities.

Museum Store

Volunteers are the best sales people.  In fact many Greeters will also help in the store during their shift. Duties include: customer assistance, straitening merchandise, and being a cheerful face.

Archive Library

Become a history detective! Archive volunteers work to find answers to the questions about our local past. Conscientious individuals who enjoy research and helping people solve problems are perfect for this fun and rewarding position. Data entry is also a vital part of this volunteer responsibility.

Building & Grounds

Gardeners and handypersons can have fun with their hobbies while helping the Museum. Get involved by maintaining our garden beds or helping with exhibit design. This creative position is always changing.

Collections

Work hands-on with our artifacts! Jobs vary in duties, skill-sets, and duration. All training is provided to help You learn how to: photograph objects, use the database, clean artifacts, research histories, and learn how to care for items using proper archival and preservation techniques.

Technology

Be a part of the ever-changing face of the Suwannee County Museum. Technology changes every day and we need to keep on top of these changes. Help us with projects ranging from databases to interactive exhibit design and website design and maintenance.

Office Help

Help us keep our office running smoothly. This position can usually be done in conjunction with the Greeter job and may include: filing, assisting with mailings, or answering phones.

Special Events

We need people to help with our many special events. This positions is great for people who work during the day or anyone who likes planning a party.

Internships

Volunteering long-term shows that you have responsibility and commitment when potential employers look at your experiences. Build your resume and support the community at the same time by participating in an internship program at the museum.

Connect with the Community

The Suwannee County Museum is a part of the intricate world of local not-for-profits. We strive to create programs and exhibits that help us to collaborate with these other groups. From the Road to Olustee Living History event to the week of activities of Railroad Days we strive to involve the museum with the greater community.

Do Something For Yourself
